Lucy travelled to Jerusalem in April this year to paint in the Holy City and at various sites along the West Bank. Accessing some of the most ancient and iconic landscapes in the area, Lucy returned with a variety of paintings that capture the beauty and history of one of the oldest cities in the world.

The exhibition entitled ‘From Wales to the West Bank’ will take place at the Welsh Academy of Art in Cwmdu, near Crickhowell.  Lucy will also be exhibiting some recent landscapes depicting scenes from the Brecon Beacons.

10% of sales will go towards the charity Children of Peace. Children of Peace is a non-partisan children’s charity dedicated to building trust, friendship and reconciliation between Israeli and Palestinian children. Patrons include Dame Judi Dench and Dr. Sentamu, Archbishop of York.

Lucy said:  ‘Painting the scenery in and around Jerusalem was a terrific experience.

Due to the nature of plein air painting in foreign lands one can generate much attention and interest from local people and for this reason every painting has a story behind it.  Meeting so many interesting and varied individuals from each divide, ethnicity and background I managed to gain some insight into the complicated situation that has been the cause of so much pain for so long.  With this in mind I decided to support the charity Children of Peace and the incredible work that they do.  Jerusalem, Israel and Palestine are beautiful, inspiring and arresting and I hope along with millions of others that one day their issues will be resolved and relations reconciled.

‘From Wales to the West Bank’ will run from Tuesday 6th December to Friday 9th December, 10am-3pm each day at The Welsh Academy of Art, Cwmdu, Crickhowell, Powys, NP8 1RU.
