Local estate agents Hamilton Stiller have completed their refurbishment of Man of Ross House, originally owned by local philanthropist John Kyrle, and relocated their office into this beautiful historic landmark. We took the opportunity to chat with directors Anna Hulin and Andrew Drake at their striking new office.
Anna, we absolutely love this building – and what you’ve done with it.
Thank you. We established Hamilton Stiller in 2008, focussing on lettings due to the downturn in the sales market, and as the business grew we moved to our previous office in Ross-on-Wye town centre in 2010.
Business has continued to expand so we took the opportunity, taking on this building in July. We used all local businesses for the refurbishment, which took around a month to complete. We opened for business on September 11th – and here we are in this fabulous prime location.
The move has enabled us to increase our staff, and we now have a much larger window space for showcasing our properties – in fact it’s almost three times the size of our previous office.
What makes you different from other estate agents?
Professionally; we’re members of the Guild of Professional Estate Agents, which enables us to promote our properties in the exclusive Park Lane, London office.
Landlords with property development experience… that’s our difference. Additionally I’m a Registered Valuer with RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) and an Associate Member. We’re also associated with London & Country (L&C) mortgage brokers who offer fee-free advice about the most suitable mortgages for our clients.
We are an independent business specialising in selling, letting and managing quality properties in Herefordshire, Monmouthshire and Gloucestershire.

What’s the housing climate like at the moment?
The market has strengthened considerably. Here in Herefordshire and Monmouthshire over 50% of our rural buyers are coming from outside the area. Buyers are moving from the South East of England, finding this area less populated and of course the outstanding countryside here is very appealing.
