ISG has been appointed by Alliance Leisure to deliver the £6.1 million refurbishment and extension of Monmouth Leisure Centre in South Wales. This latest win is the 18th to be awarded to ISG by the leisure provider through a long-standing framework agreement.
The multi-phased project sees ISG refurbish the existing leisure centre building and deliver a new steel-frame, glass-fronted extension housing a children’s play area and café. The refurbished leisure centre will retain the existing squash courts and house a toning suite, group cycling studio, exercise studio and 65-station gym, which is scheduled to open to the public in summer 2018.
The second phase of works sees ISG create a new 25-metre, five-lane pool, village change and health suite, including sauna, steam room and spa bath, which will open winter 2018.
The project involves the construction of a temporary sports hall to allow Monmouth Comprehensive School and the local community to continue to use sporting facilities whilst work is carried out. Once completed, the centre will be run by Monmouthshire County Council.
This contract award closely follows ISG’s appointment to deliver the new £14.8 million Rhyl waterpark project in North Wales for Alliance Leisure. Alliance Leisure was established to respond to the changing development needs of the public sector, education and growing leisure trust market through facility development and support to improve or expand leisure products and services.
Daniel Leigh, project manager at ISG, is responsible for the company’s Alliance Leisure contracts. He said: “Our continued partnership with Alliance Leisure is responsible for transforming and revitalising many existing local authority leisure amenities to a standard that now rivals facilities in the private sector. The framework delivery model brings major efficiencies to the build process, encouraging early stakeholder collaboration and the development of innovative solutions to reduce project timescales and deliver best value.”
