Had the opportunity last Sunday (24th September 2017) to try the newly refurbished ‘Gate’ at Llanfrechfa. Llanfrechfa is just up the road from historic Caerleon – home of another of our favourite haunts, The Priory.

We’ve eaten at The Gate several times previously when James and Julie ran it. To be fair, the food was pretty good and we quite liked the quirky interior. It had a big log fire too – always a plus.

Well, what can we say… The refurbishment is truly gorgeous (sorry, no photographs). We will, hopefully, be featuring it in a forthcoming issue but it is very ‘boutique hotel’ in the best possible way.

No time to write an endless review. Suffice to say, lunch, and desserts were excellent (I think the images do it justice).

Will we be back? You bet. Is it expensive? No, but not cheap either – you get what you pay for in life I believe and you shouldn’t be disappointed here.

For more information, I’d say visit the website. But the old website is up at the moment. Directions can easily be found with a quick Google search.

Enjoy. Tell them Wye Life sent you.
